Improving Digital Access in the Kawartha Lakes
Pinnguaq Association is very excited to announce that we are opening a brand new Makerspace in Lindsay, Ontario! Located on the 2nd floor of 87 Adelaide St. N, the Lindsay Makerspace will serve the community of the Kawartha Lakes as a place for people to explore, make, create, think, play, share, learn, unlearn, hack, and discuss digital technology. The Lindsay Makerspace is focused on supporting digital justice by building gender and racial equity in STEAM by providing access to space, educational workshops, tools, and resources; along with opportunities for mentorship, employment, and production.
We send our greatest gratitude to our funders through the Government of Canada (through the Department of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development’s CanCode Program, and Fed Dev) as well as Kawartha Lakes Community Futures Development Corporation for providing the support and opportunity to expand our programming and resources into the Kawartha Lakes with a permanent home.
Our fall programming will start on October 8, 2019, and includes Tech Xploration, Ask An Expert, and Repair Cafe Drop-Ins, along with our pre-registered programs for participants to learn and experiment with specific skills. This fall’s pre-registered programs feature Create Comix, 3D Print A Piece, and our Community Applied Workshop. Pinnguaq will host the grand opening of the space with an Open House event on October 3, 2019, from 3 to 5 p.m. where we welcome all members of the community, industry professionals, local politicians, and press to join us in this celebration and get an inside look on the programs and activities to come!
