Kevin Snow Donates Delivery Income To Inuit Ilagit

May 29, 2018

Something new is coming to Pinnguaq! Kevin Snow is a writer, storyteller, and Twine developer, and a member of Bravemule, the US-based game company. A few years ago, he created a game called Beneath Floes which is about the Inuit myth of Qalupalik, in English and Inuktitut. Early in the process, Kevin reached out to us to help bring together Inuit who could consult and advise on the game. Pinnguaq also helped with the localization and bringing it to the Inuktitut language. Beneath Floes has been a part of a number of our delivery sessions in the past years and it’s about to become a whole lot more important.

Kevin produces amazing content and he will be contributing to the delivery curriculum by providing five Twine modules for our learning hub in hopes of inspiring teachers to bring this tool into their classroom. Twine is a free open-source tool for telling interactive, nonlinear stories. For those who are new to using Twine you’ll want to check these modules out as their released over the coming months. They should serve as an introduction to this powerful narrative tool and will be rooted around Beneath Floes and the work done with that game. Twine is a fantastic tool for students to explore alternative approaches to storytelling and video game development.

As we negotiated fair compensation for this work, Kevin indicated he was more interested in donating his earnings to those in need. In a massive display of generosity, Kevin is donating his earnings from this project to Pangnirtung Soup Kitchen, run by Inuit Ilagiit. Pangnirtung is where our company began and last week we had the pleasure of running a delivery session there. The soup kitchen serves people from all around the community and last week opened a coffee shop as well. It aims to provide a safe, inclusive place for Panniqturmiut. Kevin is truly inspiring, and we are honoured to bring his talents to the delivery program.
