Welcome to Pinnguaq at Home for the week of May 25th. This week, continue to explore STEAM lessons and activities surrounding the environment.
Kids can learn how to engineer their own race car and make it run! Or they can learn about storybook sequencing or storytelling through using recycled materials at home. We also have another stick challenge! Students of all ages can try out new game design skills through our new Scratch tutorials.
We want to see the awesome things you’re creating! Share your work with us online by tagging @pinnguaq on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram . Don’t forget to include the hashtag #LearnWithPinnguaq! You can also send us your work by email at media@pinnguaq.com.
This Week’s Content
Grade 3 – Grade 12
Use your problem solving and critical thinking skills to solve these visual brain teasers using sticks.
Grade 1 – Grade 6
In this activity learners will create their very own race car using recycled and other materials. Learners will also explore the idea of storing energy in an elastic band and how we can use that energy to move their engineered race car forward.
Primary – Grade 3
This unplugged activity is geared towards a younger audience and focuses on sequences. Learners will further explore sequences and how we can recognize them all around us such as in storybooks!

In this short tutorial, you will learn how to use Scratch’s “Backpack” feature to move code and sprites between projects.
Primary – Grade 3
Storytelling can come in many forms and can convey the same message in different ways. This activity will highlight visual storytelling through recycled material found throughout the household.
